The Alchemist - Short Review

An enchanting tale about a shepherd boy who travels from Spain to the pyramids of Egypt in search of a hidden treasure. The challenges he faces at each stage of his journey provide thought provoking life lessons to the reader. It is a tale set perhaps in the early modern age (A.D 1450 – A.D 1750) and the writing provides imagery similar to rustic/desert regions. Maybe something like Agrabah (Aladdin). The life lessons are shrouded in a fairly interesting story of self-discovery and finding one’s true purpose.

I have never liked reading books. In school, the people who voluntarily went to issue books from the library were boring nerds in my eyes (must apologize to my sister). While I lived under the illusion of being cool. Ever since I’ve started content writing and poetry, I realized that the best way to work on this craft is reading. Reading to enhance vocabulary. Reading to understand writing styles. Reading to understand views and thoughts of people who today exist only through their work.

As I started this journey, I followed several book reviewers and avid readers, and most of them would recommend the Alchemist as a good start. The hype led me to think this book was a top tier story. On the contrary, I found it to be above average. In my humble opinion, it’s definitely worth a read but don’t go in expecting to be blown away.

The views above depend solely on things that I’ve learned and experienced. What’s interesting to me may be mediocre to you and vice versa. The aim of a review is to share my thoughts, don’t take it as your only way to decide whether you want to read a book or not.

Have a great day! See you in the next post 😊
